Kiln T&C's

Kiln Hire and Firing Terms and Conditions
Once your booking is confirmed details of the clay and glazes that you are using must be emailed in advance of the firing. Please include photos of labels, and links to the materials you are using where possible.

Greenware pieces should be fully dry, and any work which requires a preheat and slow firings (such as chunky sculptural work) will incur an additional fee.

Glazed pieces should have 1cm clearance between any glaze and the kiln shelf, and all bases must be wiped fully clear of glaze.

If you suspect your glaze may run you must provide a drip tray (with a rim!) to sit fully under your work - if you’re unsure how to do this please ask and I can advise. You can provide this batt-washed, or I can apply batt wash for you.

Faults in ceramic objects’ structures and glazes may result in breakages or may only become visible once firing is completed. This part of the process of learning and developing a ceramics practice and I will not be held liable for any damages, cracking, unexpected results, or faults of this nature.

I will always strive to handle your work with care and respect, but accidents can and do happen. If an item is damaged due to an accident I will offer a discount on the cost of your firing service, but will not be held liable for any damages of this nature.

I will not fire any work that I deem unsafe or risky (eg. too thick, combustable inclusions, poorly glazed work).

I do not fire wild clay, sorry!

Work must be collected promptly after the work is unloaded, I sadly don’t have the space to store work for long periods of time.

Any damage to the kiln or kiln furniture due to poorly made or glazed pieces will be charged to you. This price will vary depending on the damage incurred, but prices for kiln furniture is detailed below.

Price per replacement kiln shelf = £65
Price per replacement half kiln shelf = £45
Price per replacement shelf prop = £8.50

Minor shelf damage (ie small glaze runs that can be scraped off) = £10
